Anzac day is a very special day in New Zealand, and a time to remember those who went before us and the sacrifice’s they made.
When we travelled to Europe two years ago, we visited the war graves in the Somme area of France and Belguim, an area where thousands of kiwi soldiers lost their lives in WW1. Two of them were my great great uncles, Daniel and Michael Hishon. We stayed in Ypres, Belguim, a city where every night (since 1927, with the exception of the occupation in WW2) they have a remembrance service and the Menin Gate Bridge. This service is dedicated to all those who served and died in the first and second world wars. If you are planning to travel to Northern France or Belguim, I would highly recommend a night in Ypres, and attending the memorial service which is on every night at 8pm.
